Chief Executive Officer: Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA)
Until 2008, he spent six years as the chief executive officer of Drake & Scull FM SA (PTY) Ltd, an integrated facilities management company owned by the Tsebo Outsourcing Group, where Bonang was also a member of the executive committee (Exco).
Khandani Msibi is the Group CEO of NUMSA Investment Company and 360 Financial Services Group. He studied in various institutions to acquire his qualifications in NTD (Mechanical), B Tech Business Administration), MBL (UNISA), MAP (Wits) and MDP (UCT). He has over 35 years of corporate experience mainly in Manufacturing and Sales. He has been involved in Steel, FMCG, Facilities Management, as well as Catering and Cleaning industries. He also had a short stint as a CEO of a Water Board. He is currently involved in the Funeral, Insurance, Healthcare and Retirement Savings industries.
His career started in the metal industries where he served apprenticeship in welding and tube making at Stewards and Lloyds. He spent 9 years as a plant worker and later promoted to a Production Foreman after finishing a production management trainee program. He left the Steel Manufacturing industry to join the FMCG industry in 1991. He worked for Brystol Meyers Squibb, Bromor Foods and ABI. In FMCG he managed factories as well as development and manufacturing of new products. His career highlight was his participation in the development, manufacturing and distribution of the Energade Sports drink, which transformed the refreshment drinks product category which was until then dominated by carbonated soft drinks. He was involved in key projects that included corporate identity rebranding, establishing performance management systems, reshaping the organizational culture and managing for value, a value-based management system that used the economic value added (EVA) model as the measure of corporate success at both ABI and Bromor Foods.
He has successfully implemented organizational renewal programs like “world class manufacturing” and the Pragma maintenance systems with dramatic impact on efficiencies. His career achievements include leading a team to build a new factory in Durban for Bromor Foods and later on preventing the closure of ABI Pretoria factory through productivity improvement and innovations which saved 200 jobs of factory workers and suppliers.
His biggest career challenge was in 2008 when he was asked to join NUMSA Investment Company which was facing liquidation. His mandate was to save the investment company and grow it to improve the lives of NUMSA members. He assembled a team of key individuals that worked tirelessly to find solutions that resulted in the rescue of NUMSA Investment Company and its subsidiaries; Brevity Trade and Doves Group. The rescue process was successfully concluded and was followed by a turnaround strategy that saw the entry of the Group into insurance and medical aid through acquisitions of 3Sixty Life Insurance (formerly Union Life) and Sechaba Medical Solutions (administrator of Sizwe Medical Fund). He built companies like NUMSA Financial Services and 3Sixty Client Solutions from scratch amongst others. In 2016 Brevity Trade was successfully rebranded into the 3Sixty Financial Services Group (360 FSG) and it houses all the financial services companies of the Group. 360 FSG is currently the biggest asset of NUMSA Investment Company.
Throughout the turnaround process he sought to keep NUMSA close to the investment company and this has resulted in a healthy relationship between NUMSA as a Trade Union and NIC as a profit seeking company, balancing delicately the inherent contradictions. The effort was rewarded with an invitation to present the Group growth strategy to the 10th NUMSA National Congress in 2016, a feat previously unimagined. It was for the first time that a Trade Union Investment company gave account of itself to 1500 delegates and has heightened an understanding of the symbiosis that can exist between NUMSA and its investment Company Khandani is a meticulous leader who doubles as Group CEO of 3Sixty Financial Services Group and is the Chairman of Doves Group, 3Sixty Life, Sechaba Medical Solution, NUMSA Financial Services and other Group companies.
